The name Kaziranga influences the imagination of every Indian and brings into his heart, the Rhino. Kaziranga is one of the last strong holds for the preservation of the Great Indian one-horned Rhinoceroes. Kaziranga is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds.

The park is located on the bank of great Brahmaputra River in the far of north east India. The park lies in an area of 430 sq kms between Golaghat and Nagaon district of Assam. It includes - 51.92% of grass land, 29.13% of moist mixed deciduous forest, 7.21% sandy area, 6 .62% of water bodies, and 5.21% of swampy/ marshy area of parks.

Kaziranga National Park a world heritage site, declared by UNESCO in the year 1985, is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes & shallow pools. It was declared as a National Park in 1974.

Wildlife in Kaziranga National Park:

Besides one horned rhinos (Rhinoceros unicornis) Kaziranaga have a large population of tigers, Elephants, Leopards, Leopard cat, Buffalo, Gaur, Sloth bear, Black bear, Malayan Sun bear, Hoolock, Rhesus Macaque, Common Langur, Capped Langur, Swamp Deer, Sambar, Barking Deer, Hog deer, Common otter, Clawless otter, Wild boar, Python etc

Kaziranga is also an ornithologist’s delight and one can find a great number of avifaunal species here. The numerous water bodies of Kaziranga are rich reservoirs of food and thousands of migratory birds, representing over 100 species, visit the park seasonally from as far as Siberia.  

Major migratory birds are the Grey Pelican, Black-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Pallas’s Fish eagle, Grey-headed fish eagle, about 25-30 Bengal Floricans, Swamp Partridge, Grey Peacock-pheasant, great pied hornbill, green imperial pigeon, and silver-breasted broadbill. Sunset is a pleasant sight as well, with the birds returning to their nests.

Safari Experience

Watching a rhino at close hand is an everyday experience at the Kaziranga. The conditions at Kaziranga are ideal for the rhino to survive and they have made it their largest home anywhere in the world. In addition to Elephant and Jeep rides, several watch towers have been set up for elevated viewing of the wildlife park. Pleasant boat rides at the nearby Rhinoland Park can also be availed by tourists.

Best Time to visit Kaziranga National Park

Mid October to mid May is the best time to explore wild animals and wildlife safari in Kaziranga national park.

How to get there:

Kaziranga National Park is about 20 kms away from the Kaliabor Manor and is approximately a scenic drive of around 25 minutes.
